“Speaker” Mike Johnson just stepped in it
Speaker Mike Johnson is quickly setting records for the most cowardly House Speaker we’ve ever had, including Kevin McCarthy. On Tuesday, Space Cadet Johnson was asked if he’d accept the results of the 2024 election even if — even if – Harris wins, which she will. He proceeded to give a non-answer. “Well, of course, if we have a free and fair election,” Johnson replied.
Gosh but I hate it with this constant refrain of a “free and fair election.” That’s the only kind we have here in America, though folks like Donald Trump and Jonson would surely like to change that. We also know Trump will deem any election he loses unfair and any he wins fair.
Plus, folks like Mike Johnson, mere political courtiers who tremble in their boots at the sound of Trump’s voice, then actual humans fully formed and ready to make decisions, will dutifully go along with him. Fortunately for us, we have insurance. We have a whole GOP faction in the House that is already mobilizing to verify the election. We will also win by such big numbers. Johnson won’t have any choice. But shame on him! How unimportant our Republican frenemies find America and her democratic system! How easily they yearn to break the rules.
Naturally, Johnson’s ill-informed response made it to Twitter, and faster than one could say goober, he became a laughing stock with remarks like the following: “Dude. You’re a moron.” Well, that explains the Speaker’s character quite succinctly. What makes this all more tragic is that Johnson had posted on Twitter a screenshot of Trump himself growling about how Democrats were getting ready to cheat. This is one sad case of projection, wouldn’t you say?
