Something is wrong with Matt Gaetz

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

July may have come and gone, but given the apparent success of Joel Greenberg’s cooperation with federal prosecutors, there is more reason than ever to expect that his close associate Matt Gaetz will be indicted and arrested before much longer. Gaetz seems to know it too.

Just how far off the deep end is Matt Gaetz these days? At a rally in Florida this weekend, where the COVID Delta variant is crippling the state, Gaetz said this: “I got the Florida variant. I got the freedom variant. It affects the brain.”

This is weird even for him. We expect him to be dishonest. We expect him to be offensive. We expect him to think it’s all funny. But what does he even think he’s trying to say at this point? Is he acknowledging that something is wrong with his brain, or is this simply a sign of total incoherence?

In any case, something is wrong with Matt Gaetz – and we’re not talking about the usual awfulness. At this point he sounds even more incoherent than Donald Trump, and at least Trump has his worsening senility to blame. Gaetz sounds like a guy whose entire psyche has been shattered by what he thinks is about to happen to him.
