Something crazy is going on today with North Carolina Republican Governor candidate Mark Robinson potentially dropping out of the race

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. North Carolina Republican candidate for Governor Mark Robinson is supposedly under pressure from his party today to drop out due to an imminent scandal, according to a North Carolina newspaper named Carolina Journal. There are still inconsistencies about what the scandal might be. But this could get very interesting today.

It’s well past the deadline for swapping out a candidate on the ballot. At this point the best the GOP could hope for is that Robinson drops out, his name remains on the ballot, and his votes go to a replacement candidate – which is not a viable strategy. This wouldn’t be about trying to win. It would be a matter of the GOP forfeiting the governor’s race, which it’s going to lose anyway, for fear that keeping Robinson’s headlines around could cost it other races in NC.

Given that Robinson is already unbelievably and almost historically scandal plagued, what could be so bad that the GOP is finally trying to drop him at such an inopportune time? Not going to speculate. But this could be an interesting day. Remember, North Carolina could decide the presidential election. Anything that’s bad for the GOP in North Carolina is good for Kamala Harris. So this Robinson story, whatever it is, has national electoral implications.

If Mark Robinson does drop out, you’re about to see a lot of contrarian hot takes about how this will somehow magically help Trump and the Republicans. But I assure you, that’s not a thing at this late date. If they were going to swap this guy out and benefit from it, it would have had to have been back when Biden was swapping himself out for Kamala. If Robinson drops out, it’ll be very, very bad for Trump and the GOP in North Carolina. Whatever Robinson’s big scandal is – and it should fully surface by today or tomorrow – it’s a lose-lose for Trump and the GOP. They’re just trying to pick their poison in terms of him dropping out or not dropping out.
