Donald Trump is somehow even stupider than we thought

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Jeff Flake has once again defied everything we thought we understood about politics today, as he’s managed to force Donald Trump into removing the secret restrictions that were placed on the FBI investigation into Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. It’s not surprising that Trump tried this stunt to begin with. What is surprising is just how stupidly he went about it, causing him to get so swiftly caught in the act.

The Trump White House initially placed numerous limitations on the FBI probe into Kavanaugh. In fact the FBI was reportedly only allowed to speak to four specific witnesses, making it less of an investigation and more of an exercise in stenography. But it didn’t stop there. The Trump regime made a point of forbidding the FBI from interviewing Julie Swetnick, who is represented by media-savvy attorney Michael Avenatti.

There are conflicting theories as to how and why this happened. Was Brett Kavanaugh particularly concerned about Swetnick’s allegations? Was Donald Trump just trying to arbitrarily stick it to his nemesis Avenatti? We may never know for sure. But this was a phenomenally stupid move, because as soon as Avenatti saw that the FBI had reached out to Deborah Ramirez but not to his own client, he sounded the alarm. This paved the way for someone in the FBI to leak all of the limitations to NBC News.

If Donald Trump hadn’t specifically forbidden the FBI from speaking to Julie Swetnick, we might not have found out about any of his other secret limitations on the probe until it was too late. How could he not have foreseen that the Swetnick limitation would lead to Avenatti running to the media and causing the entire scheme to be exposed? This guy is somehow even dumber than we thought.
