Sleeping with the enemy

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Rose-colored glasses are for the innocent. The innocent, the romantics, the ones who had not yet been tainted by the cruelty of the world, the ones who found it difficult to imagine true horror. Long ago, I was one of these people. I wore my rose-colored glasses 24 hours a day. I could not imagine. I could not peer deep enough into the dark armpit of life, the wicked part, the hating part, to imagine the Holocaust actually happening.

How did it happen, I wondered relentlessly. Surely, it was simply the times, the state of play, something that could never ever befall us NOW; nothing even remotely similar could occur in America; the American people are brilliant and would never EVER fall for the evil words of a dictator.

Yes, friends and readers, that was my naivete, all wrapped up in pink, rose-colored glasses I never dreamed of taking off. I was but a child, and those days are long gone. Now I know. Now, I believe. You see, like many of you, I have come face to face with evil. I see it daily in the words and the actions of the Putin party.

It might still be inconceivable to some, those beautifully idealistic ones who still persist in wearing the rose-colored glasses of denial.

The idea, once so far fetched, however, has become imaginable. The grand old party has become the bland old party. They are bland with listlessness, no messages, no dreams of making America more beautiful.
And they stand with a dangerous dictator.

Did you know, my friends, that many Republicans have carefully sidestepped admitting that Putin murdered Alexei Navalny? Comer and Jordan are being called “Tools of Russia.” That is what ex-CIA Director John Brennon said.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, when asked about Navalny’s death, replied that she “could care less.” Rep. Nancy Mace implied she’d take Russian intelligence over anything Biden, the FBI, or DOJ, saying that Biden, the FBI and DOJ are liars.

So this is where we are. This is the point where ALL rose-colored glasses must come off. The fact is the GOP is deeply emotionally attached to the Kremlin. They might hate America. I don’t say those words — “hate America” — lightly.

But you see, Russia, as you know, is our enemy. And we have a political party with members that conspire with our enemy, whisper sweet nothings to our enemy, accept fake lying intelligence from our enemy, and seem painstakingly loyal to our enemy. They are sleeping with the enemy and it’s time to admit it.

Yes, now I can see the atrocities of the past clearly. I understand why they occurred. I vote for people who have the courage to make sure such atrocities never occur again. And everybody should do the same.
