Donald Trump goes berserk after 60 Minutes reveals he’s losing his base

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The popular narrative is that Donald Trump’s base won’t abandon him no matter what. It’s true that there’s a chunk of Trump’s base who will ride him all the way to the bottom, because all they care about in life is the kind of bottom feeding hatred that he spews. But there are this who only supported Trump because they were gullible or greedy enough to think he would magically make them rich, and of course blue collar workers are suffering thee most under Trump’s deranged economic moves.

On Sunday evening, 60 Minutes did an expose on how Donald Trump’s failed trade war has hit farmers and rural Americans hard, prompting some of them to turn against him – and how some of them now want him impeached because they’re fed up with his scandals. These folks don’t represent all of Trump’s base, but in the position he’s in, he can’t afford to lose any of them – and yet he’s clearly losing some of them.

Trump tried firing back by tweeting that “60 Minutes ‘forgot’ to report that we are helping the great farmers of the USA to the tune of 28 Billion Dollars, for the last two years, paid for out of Tariffs paid to the United States by China for targeting the farmer. They devalued their currency, therefore paying the cost!”

Uh, nice try. Donald Trump has made some payouts to farmers to try to lessen the negative impact his trade war is having on them, but those payouts aren’t nearly enough to make up for what the trade war is costing them. Moreover, no matter how many times Trump repeats the lie that China is paying the tariffs, that’s not how it works. American consumers are paying Trump’s tariffs to the U.S. government each time they buy foreign goods. In any case, Trump is losing his base, at a time when he’s in danger of losing everything.
