Sidney Powell pleads guilty in Fulton County and agrees to testify against everyone – and it’s a lot bigger deal than you think
With her trial having been set to start as soon as perhaps tomorrow, Sidney Powell has agreed to plead guilty to racketeering and will testify against everyone else in the case. This is a big deal for a few different reasons.
First, it obviously gives Fulton County DA Fani Willis a key inside witness against Donald Trump. She already had him nailed, but you can never go wrong by piling on with even more cooperating witnesses. So the odds of Trump being convicted and sentenced to prison, already extremely high in this trial, just went even higher.
Second, this is now a domino effect. When that first lower level defendant pleaded guilty and agreed to testify weeks ago, I wrote that Sidney Powell might be the next to flip, because his testimony most directly incriminated Powell. Sure enough, Powell has now flipped. This puts tremendous pressure on others who worked the most closely with Powell to also flip. If she’ll be testifying against them, what chance do they have at trial? So we could see plenty more dominoes falling.
Third, Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro were set to go on trial together this week, something that neither of them wanted. What does this do for Chesebro? We’re going to say it – will Chesebro stand alone? Will he also flip now?
Fourth, Sidney Powell is listed as a criminal co-conspirator in Jack Smith’s Trump indictment, and appears to be on track to be indicted there. If she testifies in the Fulton County case, she’d be incriminating herself at the federal level. So either she’s already cut a deal with Jack Smith that we don’t know about, or she’s about to do so.
Finally, and this may be the biggest factor of all, Sidney Powell clearly doesn’t think that Donald Trump is going to magically become President in 2024 and thus be in a position to pardon her (even on the federal stuff). Powell isn’t the most lucid bulb, yet even she can see that Trump is going to prison, not the White House. Maybe it’s time everyone else – especially in the media – also admits that “Trump 2024” isn’t a real thing.
