In the three days since Donald Trump was injured in a shooting – a surreal story in its own right – things have taken an even more surreal turn. Trump has failed to surface in public, even though doing so would help reassure his supporters that he’s alright, and would be a fundraising and sympathy boon. In Trump’s absence, his handlers have failed to put out anything about his condition – not even a glowing declaration of perfect health from his latest quack doctors. It gets even stranger.

Trump wasn’t involved in any way with today’s announcement of JD Vance as his running mate, raising serious questions about what kind of condition he’s in. Even if he has a bandage on his ear and doesn’t want to be seen with it in public, he could be calling into Fox News right now and hyping the pick. Further, The lack of “Trump-Vance” signs on day one of the Republican National Convention raises questions about whether Vance was even supposed to be the pick.

But the truly odd part is that Trump hasn’t tried reaching out to the widow of the man who was murdered at the Trump rally. The widow says that President Biden has tried to reach out, and that she doesn’t blame Biden in any way for her husband’s death. But why isn’t Trump calling this woman? Such a phone call, which would inevitably make it way to the media, would be a very easy way for Trump to score points with voters.

We all know that Trump doesn’t feel empathy and wouldn’t feel compelled to call the widow. But the people around Trump are surely trying to encourage him to make such a call, to the point of putting the phone in his hand and dialing the number for him, because it’s such an easy way to score political points. Yet Trump hasn’t done it.

Trump’s ongoing absence from public view, his seeming lack of involvement in his own running mate process, the total silence from Trump’s own handlers about his condition, and his handlers’ inability to get him to call the widow, suggest that something is really off. It all suggests that in the wake of the shooting, Trump is physically or psychologically incapable of even so much as talking on the phone. Something is going on here, and it’s surely going to come out before too much longer. Donate
