Sean Hannity’s explosive text messages about Donald Trump, January 6th, and the 25th Amendment
Former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows managed to do one of the dumbest things in American political scandal history when he handed the January 6th Committee a treasure trove of evidence before breaking off his cooperation, meaning he gave up the entire game and still managed to get himself rung up for criminal contempt. Now it’s becoming clear just how damaging Meadows’ texts are for Team Trump, and how helpful they’re proving to be for the committee.
It turns out the January 6th Committee now has text messages that Fox News host Sean Hannity of all people sent to Meadows in the days before, during, and after the January 6th attack. Some of them are explosive to say the least, which the committee is now revealing in a letter sent to Hannity.
For instance, Hannity texted Meadows on January 5th and explained why Trump’s January 6th antics had no chance of working, and would end up backfiring. Hannity also texted Meadows and Jim Jordan after the January 6th attack, expressing concern that the cabinet might remove Trump under the 25th Amendment if he kept falsely insisting he’d won the election.
This letter from the January 6th Committee makes clear that Sean Hannity is nothing short of a material witness to the entire Trump 2020 election overthrow plot. He appeared to have intricate knowledge of things that were going on inside Trump’s cabinet and the White House Counsel’s office, in a manner that went way beyond any journalistic capacity, and instead made clear that Hannity was acting as a Trump regime political adviser.
Hannity is already arguing that he shouldn’t have to cooperate with the January 6th Committee because he’s a journalist. But the text messages revealed in the committee’s letter alone make clear that Hannity was not acting in that capacity when it came to Donald Trump. We’ll see if the committee subpoenas him or not, which could be a tricky move. But either way, his text messages will be front and center during the committee’s upcoming televised public hearings.
