Score one for the good guy

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Why does the media breathlessly cover Trump so much and not Biden? I have been asked that question a lot lately. People are frustrated with the media and have been for years. I have every confidence that Joe Biden will win a second term. When I hear the media start to go on their dismal, doomsday narratives, I turn them off.

I once wrote in article for Palmer Report, where I compared the media to a leaky faucet. It’s true though, they are the drip, drip drip in the background that will give us a headache, unless we learn to tune them out.

But I want to attempt to answer what, in my opinion, is going on and to do that, I will use an analogy. Let us imagine a metaphorical high school. In the high school is Cassie. Cassie is having to choose between two High-school boys who’ve been wooing her. Their names are D and J.

D is the bad boy. He’s known throughout the school to cause chaos and drama. He’s not well liked and some even hate him. However he has about him, an ugly charisma, an outlaw mentality, and some people are drawn to that in spite of themselves.

This bad boy is the one who gets all the attention, mainly because he’s a pathological liar. He treats women terribly, he’s not monogamous, and he hates everyone.

The other man is J. J is a gentle, soft-spoken kid who is known to be wise, wise beyond his years, he is the person that people go to for advice because of his amazing empathy. His wisdom shines from him, and he’s kind and sweet.

The good boy is safe and he’s not whispered about in the hallways, because he just does his homework quietly, not bringing any attention to himself. The bad boy, the good boy. You see I believe this analogy kind of fits what the media is doing.

You can take this and apply it to the media and why they cover Donald Trump as breathlessly as they do.

It’s all about ratings. I am sure they would cover Joe Biden equally if Joe Biden started throwing ketchup bottles against the wall, started threatening other Democrats, told people to inject bleach and called the media the enemy of the people.

The fact is Joe Biden wouldn’t do any of that because Joe Biden is a good guy. He’s nice and he’s sane and he’s cool and calm and rational and gentle. These are magnificent qualities but they don’t always lend themselves to breathless coverage.

The reason for that is because the Pundits look for what’s going to keep eyes on them. Imagine if hour by hour, the media said Joe Biden is doing really well and the economy is getting better every day and he’s fulfilled most of his campaign promises. There’s no story in that! (Sarcasm.) But sadly, for these pundits — it’s true.

Pundits will be pundits and they will do what they feel they need to do but you know something? This isn’t high school anymore and nice guys do not finish last. Nice guys as Joe Biden showed in the 2020 election, kick some serious ass, and I think that our nice guy, one of the nicest presidents we’ve ever had the pleasure of having in office is going to be announced by these same pundits, as the winner in 2024
