Score one for President Biden
On January 15, President Joe Biden will deliver his Farewell Address, reflecting on his first term in office. Although we do not know the details of his speech at this point, there is no question that Biden will say goodbye to the nation with a significant record of achievement across many areas. One his most impressive accomplishments is his leadership in bringing about a dramatic rise in job creation and entrepreneurship, as core parts of the Biden-Harris economic agenda.
In a statement Friday about the latest jobs report of 256,000 new jobs in December, Biden announced that “we have created over 16.6 million jobs over the course of my administration and this is the only administration in history to have created jobs every single month.” Biden then pointed out that he “inherited the worst economic crisis in decades with unemployment above 6% when I took office,” adding that not only is he leaving office with unemployment at only 4.1%, but his administration has had the lowest average unemployment rate of any administration in half a century.
Despite what Donald Trump might want Americans to believe, these robust numbers are not a coincidence but a direct reflection of the success of the Biden-Harris administration’s economic policies. Within the space of a single term, the administration has invested in infrastructure and creating opportunities for workers in diverse industries. These consistent efforts have not only led the way to economic recovery but improved financial stability for millions of American families.
In addition to boosting job creation, the Biden-Harris administration has inspired a thriving entrepreneurial environment. Since President Biden took office, a record 21 million new business applications have been filed, more than under any prior President’s term. Again, this is no coincidence. The Biden-Harris administration’s policies have offered critical support to small businesses, spurring unprecedented levels of innovation, which helps with revitalizing communities.
Indeed, as Biden says farewell and prepares to leave office at the end of a long, successful career in government, his economic record stands as a testament to his administration’s belief in the power of investing in American workers and entrepreneurs. With millions of new jobs and a record number of new businesses, the Biden-Harris administration is leaving a strong legacy for the nation’s economic future.
