Score one for Merrick Garland

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

This is not an “in defense of Merrick Garland” article. It’s a “thank goodness for Merrick Garland” article. It does seem like the “Garland is doing nothing” voices are receding into the past. Hard to believe, looking back at it all now, their voices for a long time were sadly the loudest.

And it’s a crying shame. Because I’m not arguing garland is a good choice. I’m claiming he was the ONLY choice. I can’t imagine anyone else in this job.

Garland has about him an air of incorruptibility. You may have noticed it. His passion for America and its laws and beauty is a fortress around him that causes him to stand out. When Garland speaks — people listen.

And now, for Breonna Taylor, who was tragically killed by trigger-happy police officers, perhaps there will be some justice after all.

Four of these officers have now been federally charged — by Garland.

Civil Rights violations unlawful conspiracies and unconstitutional use of force and obstruction.

It should not have come to this. These officers should have been charged IMMEDIATELY after the death of Taylor. They should have been charged locally, but they weren’t. And now Garland has taken over.

Merrick Garland is the soothing ointment to hate and insurrection. We need to appreciate him — to celebrate him. And we also need to understand that President Biden knows the right people for the jobs that he fills.

He knew Garland was the right person. So that’s who he picked. And it is proving to be one of his most outstanding choices.

So to Garland, I say cheers, Mate. Gracias. Thank you for making America a better, more just place under your guidance. And keep up the great job.
