Score another one for President Biden
On Wednesday night, President Biden gave a much anticipated speech on his decision not to run for re-election. There was an array of right wing conspiracy theories about his health and whether he would speak that likely gave something of a boost to the speech’s viewership, and the president spoke of his decision in terms of preserving democracy- pulling no punches of the threat that Donald Trump returning to the White House would entail.
As he spoke of his plan to finish the job, he talked of his own record, as he brought the country out of the pandemic and recession and a successful border policy that brought crossings down to their lowest level in four years, lower than they were under the former guy’s administration.
While Kamala Harris was tasked as vice president to work with other countries to reduce the number of refugees who crossed the border, she’s been mistakenly referred to as a border czar by the media and by conservatives.
On Wednesday, he affirmed that his administration was successful in patrolling the border, something that the media was quick to confirm. In doing so, he put to rest one of the swing voter issues that right wingers were hoping to capitalize on.
That doesn’t mean, however, that we don’t need to put in the work between now and Nov 5 to make Vice President Harris into Madam President-elect, but that we have what we need to allay the fears of swing voters. Let’s put in the work by donating, canvassing and volunteering and we’ll beat Donald Trump in November.
