Score another one for Joe Biden

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

As the midterm season kicks into full gear with upcoming primaries and many voters who are on the fence find themselves weighing in on President Biden’s agenda – a number of voters are asking what the president has accomplished and/or what Democrats have accomplished for them. This question isn’t always asked in good faith – and of course, there’s always the obvious issue that the GOP and its voters are more fired up than usual in an election where the current president belongs to the opposite party and already giving a taste of how disastrous things will be if they are ever again entrusted with power.

Aside from reasons to keep the GOP out of power, the recently released budget proposed by President Biden is a shining example of why you should vote for Democrats – consisting of a proposed tax increase on the 700 wealthiest Americans (essentially undoing the 2017 Trump tax cuts. It also doubles the amount of money awarded to college students in federal Pell grants, making higher education affordable to more individuals than ever before, invests in building more homes to offset the costs of housing and works to eliminate the deficit, something Republicans love to lament but only make worse.

A number of the defeatists in our ranks are likely to say that this is either not enough or that presidents’ budgets are always dead on arrival anyway, but if you remember just four short years ago, we were dealing with a president who was stealing from the military budget to fund his vanity border wall – something that led to the longest government shutdown in history. Right now, the finer details of Biden’s budget are still being sorted out, but the vision of America it offers is one far more in touch with reality and has a much likelier chance of taking place with Democratic control of Congress. That’s why winning in 2022 is so crucial.
