When you look at Donald Trump’s current approval ratings, you might ask: “Who elected this clown?” Now that his voters have a taste of his “leadership,” they don’t like it, and the swing voters who helped propel him to victory don’t much like it either. Why? He is simply following his Project 2025 playbook. If people believed Trump when he said he knew nothing about that playbook, they are particularly gullible. To pour salt into the proverbial wound, GOP strategist Brendan Buck said it’s only going to get worse.

Appearing on MSNBC’s “The Weekend,” Buck had a problem with Michael Steele’s comment to the panel “to slow down their enthusiasm over [Trump’s] growing unpopularity.” Buck responded: “Obviously, it’s just a snapshot, but I certainly don’t think it’s going to get better for him anytime soon.” It’s not helping that he hasn’t done anything he promised to do other than deporting people, and he’s not even doing that right.

It is bad enough that the Trump administration erroneously deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia and refuses to facilitate his return, but they have now deported children who are citizens and are ages 2, 4, and 7. This administration obviously doesn’t care about due process or the rights of citizens. The 4-year-old has stage 4 cancer and was deported without medication or contact with the child’s doctor. This is beyond despicable. These families were following the rules of their pending immigration cases by appearing for their routine check-ins under the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program. It’s as if they were required to attend this program so that they could be deported.

Illegal immigration has been an issue in the country for far too long; however, it does not need to be done in such a heartless manner, and it is incumbent upon the administration to ensure the people they are deporting are eligible to be deported. The current procedures show no care whatsoever, even to young children. Is this how we want the rest of the world to view us? Apparently, most Americans agree that Donald Trump has gone way too far.

Even as Trump’s various approval ratings have tanked, his approval rating on immigration has remained high-until now. According to the WaPo-ABC News-Ipsos poll, 53% of Americans disapprove of how Trump is handling immigration. The one that should bother the Trump administration the most is the disapproval rating of independents, which has grown to 46%. This is part of why Brendan Buck believes Trump is in trouble. Buck said: “I think what’s amazing in all this polling is how much he has undermined the advantages he had going in. He had a real advantage on the issue of immigration-now he’s underwater on immigration. That’s remarkable and, of course, on the economy, this economy was ready to get going, it was going to be roaring if he had just gotten out of the way a little bit.” Therein lies one of Trump’s biggest flaws. He will never be able to get out of his own way because he thinks he’s always right. He is, once again, hampered by his own narcissism.
