Sarah Huckabee Sanders resigns amid controversy
Donald Trump announced just now on Twitter that White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is resigning, effective at the end of the month. Trump says she’s packing up and moving back to Arkansas, for unstated reasons – meaning that she’s abandoning her career in national politics entirely. Interestingly, Sanders is bailing just hours after a new kind of controversy has enveloped the White House senior staff.
For reference, here’s Donald Trump’s tweet about the matter: “After 3 1/2 years, our wonderful Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be leaving the White House at the end of the month and going home to the Great State of Arkansas She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job! I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas – she would be fantastic. Sarah, thank you for a job well done!”
We’re going to give Trump the benefit of the doubt here and assume that “3 1/2″ years” refers to the total amount of time that Sanders has worked for him including the campaign, and not – as he stated – that Trump now thinks he’s been in office for 3 1/2 years. In any case, what stands out more is that Sanders is suddenly bailing on the Trump regime, and bailing on Washington DC politics altogether, immediately after the House Oversight Committee announced that it’ll be holding hearings next week over Kellyanne Conway’s violations of the Hatch Act.
Is this a mere coincidence? We don’t have any way of knowing. But we’ve just now finally reached the point where the criminal behavior of Donald Trump’s White House staffers – not just his cabinet members but his actual staffers – is about to be put on display for all to see. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has violated the Hatch Act multiple times herself. Is she cutting and running because she fears there will be hearings about her next, or was this already pre-planned?
