Here’s the funny part about Donald Trump’s ouster of Ryan Zinke

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

If Donald Trump keeps firing people and failing to find anyone to take their place, he and Mick Mulvaney might end up being the only people left in his illegitimate administration. This morning Trump announced the departure of someone so corrupt, his criminal antics stood out even within the context of the Trump regime: Ryan Zinke. The thing is, it doesn’t look like Trump has anyone to replace him.

Take a look at what Trump tweeted about the departure this morning: “Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke will be leaving the Administration at the end of the year after having served for a period of almost two years. Ryan has accomplished much during his tenure and I want to thank him for his service to our Nation. The Trump Administration will be announcing the new Secretary of the Interior next week.”

To be clear, Zinke’s only “accomplishment” was getting away with two years of corruption, criminal probes, and public meltdowns on Twitter (remind you of anyone?). Here’s what stands out. This wasn’t some abrupt firing; this was Trump making the strategic decision to simply move on from the cabinet member who was getting hit with the ugliest headlines, so as to make those headlines go away. So why isn’t the replacement being named until next week?

Assuming that the illiterate Trump actually means “next week” and not this week, he’s talking about announcing his new Secretary of the Interior nominee during Christmas week. That’s one way to bury it, if the nominee is someone scandalous or embarrassing. But considering that Donald Trump literally can’t find anyone to take his Chief of Staff job on a permanent basis, you have to wonder if he even has anyone lined up for Interior. As Trump circles the drain, how many more key administration positions will simply go unfilled?
