As a general rule, if your alleged criminal co-conspirator is leaning toward flipping on you but hasn’t gone through with it yet, it’s a good idea not to do anything to push your co-conspirator over the finish line. But Rudy Giuliani ran out of ideas about fifteen years ago, and so he’s proceeding to do the dumbest thing he can think of.

Lev Parnas has been making a lot of noise over the past week about how he has hard evidence connecting himself to Donald Trump, and how he wants to fully cooperate with the House impeachment inquiry. It’s not difficult to figure out that Parnas is trying to cooperate in exchange for leniency. Seeing how the SDNY is targeting Rudy Giuliani in the same probe that resulted in Parnas’ arrest, this is not good news for Rudy.

Giuliani appeared on Fox News today and made this semi-intelligible claim about Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman: “They weren’t investigators, and they weren’t James Bond, and they didn’t have personal communications with the president. Igor Fruman would testify to that. And for some reason Lev has got himself into a grandiose thing. Or maybe his lawyer. His lawyer is saying these things. Why a lawyer says things.”

Lev Parnas is claiming that he met with Donald Trump at the White House during a holiday party. If this did happen, there would have to be witnesses or other forms of documentation that prove which side is lying. Whatever the facts are, they’re not going to end up being in dispute once this is all laid out. If Lev is sitting on evidence that can take Trump and/or Rudy down, then Rudy probably just motivated Lev to go ahead and put it out there. We’ll see.
