Rudy Giuliani hits the panic button

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

This weekend, Saturday Night Live quipped that Rudy Giuliani could end up being the first lawyer to plead insanity on behalf of himself instead of his client. Although it was a joke, it does serve as a reminder that Giuliani very much appears to be facing criminal liability of his own in the Trump-Russia scandal. In fact most people believe Rudy became Trump’s lawyer in the hope of getting himself off the hook.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller made a surprise move this week by having Michael Cohen plead guilty to the charge of having lied to Congress. It helped establish Donald Trump’s role and motive in the Trump-Russia election rigging conspiracy. But when you combine it with the Senate Intel Committee’s sudden announcement that it’s made criminal perjury referrals to Mueller against multiple Trump-Russia people, it’s become clear that Mueller is going to take down everyone who committed crimes in this scandal. That brings us to Rudy.

Donald Trump has gone strangely silent since Mueller landed that one-two punch this week. But if anything, these developments have stunned Rudy Giuliani out of his recent silence, and now he’s foaming at the mouth in even more panicked fashion than ever.

For instance, this morning Rudy tweeted this: “Mueller brings process cases like Cohen’s pleading guilty to lying to Congress and threatens similar cases against Cohen and Corsi. These cases, and all so far, demonstrate no evidence of Trump collusion and are ‘…full of sound and fury signifying.’” He just sort of stopped there, instead of completing the famous quote, which is typical Rudy. But we think he gave away something in the tweet.

What stands out to us is that this doesn’t sound like an attorney representing his client’s interest. Instead it sounds like Rudy Giuliani is realizing that Donald Trump’s various criminal henchmen and hangers-on are all going to get picked off by Robert Mueller on one charge or another, and that Rudy is probably among them. Although Giuliani’s brain has largely melted, he’s a former prosecutor, and so he knows how these things tend to end.
