Donald Trump has berserk Rose Garden meltdown
Yesterday, Donald Trump lost. Both parties forced him to cave on a budget deal that includes zero dollars for his imaginary border wall, leaving him trying to save face by declaring a “national emergency” that will also get him zero dollars for his wall. So today, Donald Trump did what he always did when he’s lost: he went indiscriminately and incoherently berserk, in the loudest and most absurd way possible.
Donald Trump held a press conference just now in the White House Rose Garden, aimed at selling the media and the public on his pointless national emergency and his unpopular border wall idea. Needless to say, it didn’t go well. At one point Trump yelled at reporter Brian Karem to “sit down” and, in a sign of just how little incentive anyone has to cower to Trump these days, Karen simply refused to sit down. At another point Trump was randomly and poorly mimicking the accent of Chinese President Xi for no apparent reason.
At one point #TrumpFakeEmergency and #FakeTrumpEmergency were both atop Twitter’s trending list. It wasn’t just Trump’s usual detractors piling on, either. Conservative buffoon Ann Coulter, who has somehow become a litmus test these days for what Trump’s racist idiot base is thinking, admitted that the national emergency declaration was nothing more than a phony attempt at conning the dumbest members of Trump’s base. So now what?
Donald Trump knows this is going nowhere in the end. It’s a matter of how far he wants to take the charade, in the hope of distracting his base from the fact that he caved by signing a deal with $0 for his wall. If he even goes so far as to try to shift funding to his border wall, it’ll be immediately halted by the courts. Meanwhile, Trump’s adversaries are already framing his national emergency overstep as an impeachable offense. Bring it on.
