Ron DeSantis Treasury probe reveals he’s in over his head

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The mainstream media (on the left, right, and center) keeps trying to milk ratings out of Ron DeSantis by portraying him as a smarter, savvier, and more focused version of Donald Trump. But while DeSantis is certainly trying to be Trump, he’s consistently shown that he’s not smart or savvy enough to understand how to use the Trump playbook he’s borrowing.

The latest reminder of this was when DeSantis essentially kidnapped a group of undocumented immigrants from Texas and dumped them in Martha’s Vineyard, to try to make himself look tough on immigration. A smart villain would have found a savvier way to do this which involved less risk and exposure. But simpleton DeSantis instead did it in a way that made a mess and made his petty ineptitude the story.

This was confirmed today when Democratic Senators announced that the U.S. Treasury has granted their request and is now investigating DeSantis’ use of COVID relief funds to pay for the immigration stunt. Again, a smart political villain would have found a way to make sure the money trail was airtight, so it couldn’t be used as a method of entry for investigators. But DeSantis is inexperienced, dim witted, and in over his head.

This doesn’t make Ron DeSantis any less dangerous than he’s portrayed on TV. He’s just a different kind of dangerous. He’s not some evil genius with a secret plan who’s always three steps ahead of us and is therefore somehow magically unstoppable. Instead DeSantis is an insecure idiot who fell sideways into the office of Governor of Florida thanks to a Trump endorsement, knows he doesn’t belong there, knows he’s failing at the job on every level, and is insecure enough to be obsessed with petty stunts aimed at proving how “smart” and “strong” he is. And rarely is there more collateral damage than when a dumb scumbag is hellbent on proving how smart he is. Of course you can end this all right now by helping elect Democrat Charlie Crist as the next Governor of Florida. An unemployed DeSantis would make for an irrelevant DeSantis.
