Ron DeSantis just stepped in it

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

In Homer’s classic work, “The Illiad,” Achilles has a deep friendship with Patroclus. The two are described as having known each other since childhood. A romantic relationship is implied, although not stated explicitly. I do not think Ron DeSantis has ever read “The Iliad.” I say this because Ron DeSantis is under fire right now. And not just from Democrats.

In what might be the worst blunder of his presidential campaign (and there have been many), DeSantis shared a video Friday that gives new meaning to the word “homophobic.” This video was filled with crazy, sickening memes. It celebrates DeSantis and his record of discriminating against the LGBTQ community.

Stark and morbid music begins to play, and pictures of DeSantis with lasers coming out of his eyes begin. However, in addition, viewers of the video see DeSantis sandwiched between sweaty male bodybuilders and references to Achilles, who was played by Brad Pitt in the film “Troy.” (Hope Pitt asks Ron to remove his image.)

The video was not well-received either by Republicans or Democrats, with it being widely seen as disgusting, homophobic, and dangerous. Sarah Longwell is a moderate Republican strategist, and she said on Twitter: “The consultants who think this kind of running to Trump’s right is going to be effective should be sacked.”

All over, twitter’s condemnation of the video came fast and furious, but with said condemnation also came amusement — at the fact that Ron DeSantis does not seem to know the legend of Achilles.

Indeed, there is a school of thought that Achilles himself was either Gay or Bi. DeSantis plainly set out to compare himself to Archilles, not understanding anything about the mythical being he was comparing himself to. And that made many laugh.

Pete Buttigieg got many laughing after he pointed out this about the video: “trying to prove your manhood by putting up a video that spaces images of you in between oiled-up shirtless bodybuilders.”

I hate to break it to DeSantis, but REAL men do not see the need to PROVE that they’re real men. They certainly do not see a need to post videos comparing themselves with ancient mythical characters.

This may have been DeSantis’s stupidest move yet. The whole internet is, as I write this, laughing their heads off at him while pointing out how disgusting the video is:

“Ron DeSantis has no brain capacity.”

“I see he failed to shave.”

“hard pass.”

“does Ron know making a campaign commercial for incels is not the flex he thinks it is?”

“radioactive waste.”

“total cringe.”

“what the flying FIG did I just watch?”

DeSantis tried to make a last stand (using images of — Brad Pitt to boot). It didn’t work. It won’t work. Nothing Ron does will work because he’s disgusting, and most of the world knows it.
