Ron DeSantis just got steamrolled

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Here’s the thing about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. He’s corrupt, evil, and cruel – but he’s also dumb, inept, and in way over his head. The national media has spent all year chasing ratings by fictionally portraying DeSantis as some kind of evil genius whose rise is inevitable. But whenever DeSantis is forced to actually speak, we’re reminded that he’s his own worst enemy.

Case in point: Monday night’s debate between Ron DeSantis and Democrat Charlie Crist. Crist called out DeSantis for caring far less about the people of Florida than he does about his own future ambitions. Then Crist asked DeSantis a simple question: if DeSantis wins reelection as Governor of Florida, will he commit to actually finishing out his term? Watch DeSantis’ answers for yourself:

That’s right, DeSantis had no answer at all. He just stood there, like a deer in the headlights, completely overmatched, unable to summon any sort of answer. DeSantis could have just said “yes” even if it wasn’t the truthful answer. Or DeSantis could have coughed up a trickily worded non-answer. Or he could have tried to change the subject. But that would have required a basic level of political savvy, and DeSantis has no political savvy.

DeSantis is ahead in the polling averages in Florida, partly because far too many activists on our side have wasted the past year portraying DeSantis as some omnipotent evil genius, under the mistaken belief that this kind of hyperbolic defeatism somehow makes them “vigilant.” In reality, if the activists on our side had spent all year accurately portraying DeSantis as a moron and mocking him for it, he’d probably be down in the polls.

Here’s hoping Charlie Crist can defy the current polls and pull out a victory in Florida. But if DeSantis does win in two weeks, and then tries to parlay that into a 2024 presidential campaign, let’s learn from our side’s big mistake in 2022. Ron DeSantis is a complete moron with zero political savvy. He tries to distract from his extreme weakness by beating his chest and acting tough. But when you back him into a corner, as Crist did during the debate, everyone gets to see that DeSantis is indeed a witless idiot. That’s the way to take a weakling like DeSantis down.
