Ron DeSantis is spun around already
A number of staunch NeverTrumpers have been desperately trying to make DeSantis ‘24 a thing. Of course, this shows that they were NeverTrumpers for all of the wrong reasons – mostly because Trump is crass and obnoxious and keeps Republicans from winning elections – and not because he’s a sociopath and aspiring dictator – since those two traits are also true of the Florida governor. The problem is that DeSantis has never really had the same degrees of popularity with Trump’s base as the former guy – especially when they think Donald Trump should be returned to the White House next year.
DeSantis decided to pivot in truly embarrassing fashion – figuring that Fox News was already propping him up as the candidate for 2024 and decided to unload on Ukraine – simply parroting the Kremlin nonsense about it that Tucker Carlson, who interviewed him, usually follows. The problem is, this backfired spectacularly, as Trump merely accused DeSantis of just flip-flopping to doing what he said, while some in the GOP establishment are openly rebuking DeSantis’ rhetoric – with Lindsey Graham actually giving a sensible analysis of the aggression in Russia and Ukraine. In other words, Trump took the wind out of DeSantis’ sails while not really even trying.
As we’ve said before in the Palmer Report, the GOP is trying the same old shit they did for the last two cycles. These candidates are deranged, but if we put in the work by registering voters and juicing our turnout between now and 2024, we can and will beat them.
