Ron DeSantis is doing everything he can to lose reelection in Florida

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is spoiling for a fight with Disney World. It is a battle of futility. It is a battle he cannot win. DeSantis (Medusa’s brother, Insurrection party, Florida) is seemingly determined to wage war on Mickey Mouse — and anything having to do with the happy place we call Disney.

DeSantis has declared that there will be a legislative session to talk about yanking Disney’s special status — a deal that has been in place since 1967. This does not appear to matter to DeSantis, who appears rippling mad that ANYONE would DARE to disagree with him.

Disney, as you know, spoke out sharply about the Don’t say gay bill — apparently earning the eternal wrath of the Medusian non-Governor.

Speaking from “The Villages,” DeSantis declared that this legislative session will be “considering termination of all special districts enacted in Florida prior to 1968, including the Reedy Creek Improvement District.”

Democrats are calling this “bullying” and “retaliation.” And it is.

“I have this vision of a mousetrap,” states Democratic Senator Janet Cruz. “I see us leaning on the neck of the mouse for 12 months, just to step on Mickey’s neck.”

But Republicans appear infuriated by Disney having the gumption to think for themselves.

The sponsor of the bill is Republican Rep. Randy Fine. And he tweeted this:

“Disney is a guest in Florida. And today, we remind them.”

A guest? Let’s just say it out loud. If DeSantis wants to pick a long-term fight with Disney, he is out of his mind. He can’t win. Disney is the biggest employer in the state of Florida. They’re also a mecca for tourism bringing in millions for the palm tree state and delighting children and tourists everywhere.

If Desantis really stays the course on this, he will be more of a laughing stock than he already is. Remember, he won last time by tiny numbers. This is not going to endear him to the people of Florida. And yes, of course, there will be some Maga who will happily lap at his coattails, but the majority will not.

Disney is a place of delight, particularly for children. Its ingredients are laughter, charm, and magic. It will be in Florida long after Ron DeSantis has left the Governor’s mansion. Hopefully, his leaving will come this November.
