Roger Stone allegedly caught on tape discussing plan to take out members of Congress and “abduct” prosecutor
Roger Stone has somehow managed to avoid getting indicted in relation to the 2020 election – so far. But is his luck about to run out? Mediaite says it’s obtained a recording in which Stone and an NYPD officer discussed a plan to take out House Democrats Jerry Nadler and Eric Swalwell. Stone also reportedly urged his cop pal to “abduct” DOJ prosecutor Aaron Zelinsky during the recording.
There are a number of caveats here. The recording has to be proven to be real (Stone now claims that the recording was created by AI). Even if the voice is forensically proven to be Stone, he would likely argue that he was merely joking around with a friend, and that there was no serious intent.
But prosecutors will surely examine the recording and determine whether this is the kind of thing that can lead to criminal charges. It’s worth keeping in mind that even “jokes” about abducting or harming federal prosecutors and government officers can potentially lead to charges.
Roger Stone has previously been convicted on multiple felonies, but was pardoned by Donald Trump on those charges. This seemingly led Stone to conclude that he’s invincible. We’ll see.
