We told you that Donald Trump’s impeachment trial was just a dress rehearsal for his inevitable criminal trial on the same charges – we just didn’t know when that ball would get rolling. But now that ball is in fact rolling.

Even as revelations involving Kevin McCarthy and Mike Pence were surfacing on Friday, the Washington DC Attorney General’s office let it be known to CNN that the AG is looking to find a way to criminally charge Trump for the insurrection based on DC local laws.

This gets complicated fast because DC isn’t a state and therefore has no state laws. But this is either the purview of the Washington DC Attorney General, the Department of Justice, or both. It seems clear that Trump will be criminally charged for inciting the insurrection one way or the other. This is in addition to New York’s confirmed criminal investigation into Trump’s finances, and Fulton County Georgia’s confirmed criminal investigation into Trump’s election tampering.
