Resign, Lindsey Graham

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

There was a time when everyone sort of grudgingly respected Lindsey Graham, back when he was John McCain’s sidekick, back when he was reasonable even when he was wrong about things, back when he was a functional adult. It’s hard to believe that was only, like, two years ago.

All it took was the passing of McCain, and a single round of golf with Donald Trump, for Lindsey Graham to morph into an entirely different person. He instantly become a cartoonish Trump cheerleader, even while gradually becoming more incoherent and unstable. It’s as if there’s been a struggle within Graham’s soul over whether it’s been worth it to go down this road, and that struggle has caused him to go completely bonkers. But after today, there’s no redeeming him.

This morning Donald Trump posted an astoundingly racist tweet asserting that the impeachment process meant he was the victim of a “lynching.” Even some of Trump’s most disgusting surrogates tried to tepidly distance themselves from the remark. But not Lindsey Graham, who responded by agreeing that Trump is indeed the victim of a “lynching.”

As a reminder, Lindsey Graham is the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. We simply can’t have someone in that position who is so desperate to stay on the good side of a criminal President of the United States, he’s willing to vouch for racist remarks like this. How can anyone in this country, particularly people of color, trust Graham to use his position fairly? He must resign. He must do it today. If Graham refuses to resign, you can support his 2020 Democratic opponent Jaime Harrison here.
