Republicans on the run
Republicans on the run really ought to be the branding for Democrats to go with this year – as Josh Hawley was hardly the only one to flee the scene at an inopportune moment he couldn’t control.
Now, we have footage of the Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano, doing the same thing at a rally back in June when reporters pressed him on his involvement with Jan 6, which included being a featured speaker at a Stop the Steal rally and footage of him entering areas closed to the public. Throughout much of the primary, he barred reporters from news outlets he disliked, particularly after a scandal about payments he allegedly made to a white supremacist website.
Whenever pressed on his Trumpian behavior, he largely just goes on tirades about the media plotting against him. The problem is that talking only to right-wing outlets that are sympathetic to his extreme stands on abortion (supporting a total ban) or voting rights (as he’s openly admitted to doing everything he can to overturn election results he doesn’t like) generally keeps him from getting press that would help his appeal to voters in the middle who will ultimately decide the elections in Pennsylvania this year.
This is likely one of the reasons why a Fox News poll has the Democratic candidate, Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Josh Shapiro ahead by 10 points in one new poll. This isn’t just a race that we can win – it’s one that we absolutely must win, so do all you can to get Josh Shapiro elected on November 8.
