Republicans are running and hiding

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Our news cycles go so fast, do they not? The news cycles can sometimes feel like high tide — each story washes away so very quickly — they roll in, and then, almost before we can wrap our heads around one story — they’re gone — washed away, and the next shiny news story begins.

We have to stop. We have to stop letting some of these stories fade away. We just have to. The GOP is tired. They’re running out of excuses, and they are running scared. This is a good thing in a way — although their behavior is despicable, it is getting called out. Let’s visit some of the biggest GOP cowards — to see how they’re responding in the wake of the Texas shooting.

Let’s start with Marco Rubio. Little Marco is unraveling. Little Marco lashed out after the Miami Heat urged its fans to call for gun reform. He began tweeting like a madman. No bible verses this time. He angrily accused Miami Heat of “politicizing” the shooting. I guess he had to say that his little friends in the NRA might not contribute to his campaigns anymore.

Moving on, let’s look at Rafael Cruz. Cruz was asked why these shootings happen “only in America.” Rafael ran. He seemed infuriated. And he ran like the coward he is.

Greg Abbott? The next Governor of Texas, Beto O’Rourke, confronted him for answers that the non-Governor refused to give. Abbott DID have time to attend a campaign event — on the night of the shooting. He also plans to attend the NRA convention this Friday.

And, of course, there is Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, who ran into a door trying to get away from reporters. As I said — the response from Republicans are non-responses. But we see something else. We see fear. We see a lot of fear from the GOP. They’re afraid because they HAVE no answers. They want to wait us out. They are hoping we forget. We will NEVER forget. Ever.

As many of you know, I am a big fan of singer and poet Jacques Brel. I have quoted him before. Allow me, if you will to close with a lyric to “If we only have love,” a song that was written decades ago that could have been written today. This is how relevant it is:

“If we only have love.
We can melt all the guns.
And then give the new world.
To our daughters and sons.”
