Republicans are doubling down on a hand they can’t win

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When President Biden made a speech on Thursday night, he condemned the actions of the former guy as well as the growing number of insurrectionists who are finding themselves with well-deserved prison sentences for the actions they took on January 6 of last year. While Donald Trump has admitted publicly that he’s considering pardoning those who participated in the insurrection if he ever manages to gain power again, the president decided to do what the GOP and much of the media at this point has refused to do.

Republicans reacted to President Biden’s speech just about as well as you’d expect – doing everything they can just to prove his point while trying to spin the speech as an attack on all Americans who voted for Donald Trump as a threat to America. While President Biden moved on to talk about infrastructure on Friday, Peter Doocy decided to make an ass of himself yet again by bringing up the question about what Biden meant – and of course all he did was get the president to bring up every last anti-democratic activity the GOP has involved themselves in over the last year or so.

It’s a bit of an inopportune time, as later on in the month, we’ll be hearing more testimony regarding the Jan 6 investigation – just as Republicans are locked in a struggle of whether they need to keep defending the former guy. Let’s use this as our opportunity to unite and keep them from power in 2022.
