Republican turnout is in the dumpster
Turnout for the Iowa Republican caucus this week was extremely weak, and a lot of that is being blamed on the terrible weather. That would be a valid argument, if not for the fact that Republican turnout is down everywhere these days. Republicans also severely underperformed in this week’s special election in Florida, for instance.
In fact the Republicans keep underperforming in every recent election cycle. It happened in 2022, it happened in 2023, and now it’s happening in early 2024. Political strategist did a deep dive on why Republican turnout is in the dumpster, and it’s worth reading:

Since Dobbs, Rs have been struggling to get their voters to show up in election after election across the US. And it happened in Iowa last night, and in a Florida House special tonight.
Ongoing lack of GOP intensity over 18 months now huge story which needs far more attention. https://t.co/qCejrEB6Gf
