Republican leader resigns, blasts GOP

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Have you heard, friends and readers, the delightful expression, “My spirit cannot be broken?” I adore this phrase. And it’s an important one. Having the spirit to fight another day — for what one believes in — is vitally important. An unbroken spirit can lead one to do great things and perform many unselfish acts. An unbroken spirit soars high.

But there is someone whose spirit IS broken — and according to this person, the reason for this is his own party — the Republican party. This person is Oregon State Senator Dallas Heard — the chair of the Oregon Republican Party. And Heard has done something about it. He has resigned.

In a shocking resignation letter, Heard unleashes his fury about what the GOP has become. Accusing them of using “communist psychological warfare to go after their opponents, Heard says this:

“The endless slander, gossip, conspiracies, sabotage, lies, hatred, pointless criticism, blocking of ideas, and mutiny brought against my administration has done what I once never thought possible. They have broken my spirit.”

Mutiny. Heard continues: “My physical and spiritual health can no longer survive exposure to the toxicity that can be found in this community. This is about his OWN party. I have a message for this man. And that is this: Your spirit might be broken now, but it will heal and thus come back to you.

Would that others would do the same. But that might be too much to expect. Courage comes rarely to the GOP these days. Cowardice comes quite easily. One should never allow their spirit to be broken. After all, politics and politicians come and go. But an unbroken spirit lasts forever — and often changes the world in the process.
