Republican House steps in quicksand

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. If you’ve ever seen a company go out of business, you may know how it starts. Rumors. Whispers. Jumpy workers. A feeling of confusion, that something big is coming, something unwelcome. That is what Republican House “leader” Mike Johnson is dealing with now.

The House caucus has turned into one long, ominous house of doom. The whispers won’t die down. They’re actually getting louder. If certain sources can be believed, the feeling is of a perfect storm on its way to shattering the breaking-apart eggshells that House Republicans have been walking on.

The Washington Post says the morale over in the house is sinking into quicksand. Republican Reps are feeling tired, burnt out, and exhausted. And many of these republicans are living and working in fear that more resignations are on the horizon.

Not only are Republicans afraid of more resignations, but they’re afraid the resignations will be immediate – in other words, no two weeks’ notice here — maybe not even one DAY’s notice.

Former Rep Ken Buck said more resignations will follow. “This is a dysfunctional place,” he said bluntly. In dysfunctional work environments, one of the things that is usually lost the earliest are the workers themselves.

People aren’t stupid; they can pick the signs of dysfunction and know whether or not they’re working in a healthy or toxic environment.

And so the first resignations start. But those only beget MORE resignations because it’s always the first one who initiates, and once that person leaves, it gives cover to all the other fed-up employees, who find their courage.

It is sort of like Donald Trump’s multiple arrests. Once ONE does it — well — the others follow. Republicans also say (in private, of course) that they’re desperate to “neutralize the handful of hard-liners.”

That will be easier said than done, especially with all those pesky resignations. So, the GOP house is sort of in the worst possible position. No, there is one thing that would drag them down even more: the Democrats taking back the House BEFORE the 2024 election. Stay tuned because it looks like that might happen.
