Sometimes when times are dark, and it looks like hope is a thing of the past, it does well to look up, not down. Looking up at the painted imagery of the glowing moon and the endless sparking stars does a mind good. So does remembering. Remembering is important. It’s REALLY important in politics.

This is because we’re only as good as our last election. Politics is a never-ending business. It ebbs, and it flows and the activism — the activism that is so vitally important — never ends. It can’t. There will always be injustices. There will always be essential elections. And that is when remembering and looking up can be so vitally important.

In order to go forward, we have to remember the past. We must remember how we’ve changed lives and how we’ve won elections nobody thought us capable of winning. Soon there will be more elections to win. Those will be the elections of 2024. It is imperative to be able to tune out the media, ignore the doomsday pundits and concentrate on what we did before.

We have to channel that activism and use it as our beacon of light going forward We are all united, and we all want the best for this country. It’s important to write articles like this because they underscore that an activist’s work is never done but that we CAN win. We can do this as long as we ALWAYS look up, not down.

Looking down and being down and throwing up one’s hands is the strategy of losing. Looking up and feeling the buoyant wind at our backs as we use the past to propel us to the future is our winning formula.
