The biggest red herring about Donald Trump’s impeachment

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump and the Senate Republicans are now leaking that they might hold an impeachment trial that only lasts two weeks. That’s cute. Remember last month when they leaked that they were going to hold extensive hearings that ran six days a week? Before that they leaked that they might just hold an immediate vote.

Somewhere in there, Mitch McConnell claimed to know the precise date on which the Senate impeachment trial was going to end, which is hilarious considering that he doesn’t even get to control when such a trial would start, because Nancy Pelosi and the House will decide when to hand this off to the Senate.

The point is that Trump, McConnell, and the Senate Republicans just keep throwing things at the wall to see what might stick, at a time when they have no idea what they’re going to be looking at. We don’t know how many more explosive witnesses will come forward before the House is done with its portion of the impeachment hearings. We don’t know how the polls will end up shifting. Neither do Senate Republicans. They don’t have a clue what the landscape will look like by the time they inherit it.

The only thing we know for 100% certain is that when it comes to impeachment, Senate Republicans will end up doing whatever they think is personally best for themselves, whether that ends up being protecting Donald Trump, or throwing Donald Trump in a trash chute. Until we get there and find out what the landscape is going to look like, the best thing you can do is just tune out everything that Senate Republicans are saying about impeachment. None of it will have any relevance by the time we get to a Senate impeachment trial.
