Things are about to get even stupider than they already have. Stupider than Donald Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen also secretly being Sean Hannity’s attorney? Yes. Stupider than Donald Trump’s new attorney being Rudy Giuliani? Yes. How do we know this? Because we’ve now reached the stage where everything is going be stupid from here on out โ€“ and there’s a reason for that.

There’s a point in every hero-villain movie in which the villain drops all pretense of innocence or virtuosity, in favor of simply making a desperate last ditch effort to achieve his evil goal or save himself from his own worsening situation. In the movies, these kinds of desperation moves often poetically cause the villain to fall down a hole to his demise. From time to time I’ve reminded Palmer Report’s readers that the Trump-Russia scandal is quite a movie, regardless of how it sometimes resembles one. In reality, the villain tends to try a desperation moves, find no success, and then give up.

Because Donald Trump is such a cartoon villain, we don’t know whether his demise will be more similar to that of the movies or reality. But we do know that Trump and his team are now so desperate, they’re no longer even remotely worried about appearances. They weren’t much on acting innocent to begin with. But if you to brainstorm on the one move Trump could make that would paint him laugh-out-loud guilty, you probably still couldn’t come up with something as ridiculous as hiring Rudy Giuliani as his lawyer, because even Trump isn’t that overboard โ€“ except yes, now he is.

So look for things to get even more stupid from here on in. Seriously, Donald Trump is now hiring one of his most infamous criminal co-conspirators as his personal attorney to defend him in the investigation into those crimes. He’s clearly now willing to try anything, now matter how desperate or stupid it may be, or how guilty it might make him look. Michael Scott, the idiot boss on The Office, once declared “It’s about to get all stupid up in here!” Get ready for it.
