Donald Trump goes completely off the deep end after realizing how badly he’s losing
Last night, new numbers from major polling entity Quinnipiac revealed that Donald Trump isn’t just on track to lose in 2020, he’s on track to get blown out by any viable Democratic opponent. A year and a half is a long time and a lot can change, but these numbers say that Trump is in the worst position a presidential incumbent can be in. Suffice it to say that Trump isn’t taking the news well.
To give you an idea of how humiliating these new poll numbers were for Donald Trump, the phrase “Trump 41%” was trending on Twitter for half the night, as people piled on with jokes about things like rabies and a colonoscopy polling higher than Trump. Just two days ago, Trump was bragging because (notoriously inaccurate) polling outlet Rasmussen comically claimed that his approval rating was at 50%. But now Trump has decided that the pollsters are his enemy.
Trump posted this surreal rant about the Quinnipiac poll: “The Fake News has never been more dishonest than it is today. Thank goodness we can fight back on Social Media. Their new weapon of choice is Fake Polling, sometimes referred to as Suppression Polls (they suppress the numbers). Had it in 2016, but this is worse. The Fake (Corrupt) News Media said they had a leak into polling done by my campaign which, by the way and despite the phony and never ending Witch Hunt, are the best numbers WE have ever had. They reported Fake numbers that they made up & don’t even exist. WE WILL WIN AGAIN!”
To be clear, that’s not even how voter suppression works. What’s interesting here is that, even with as thoroughly insulated as Donald Trump is from real news, he managed to get wind of this new Quinnipiac poll in rather swift fashion. In other words, the message is getting through to him that he’s currently on track to get his butt kicked in 2020. Trump’s rant also suggests that his people are trying to cheer him up by showing him fake internal poll numbers – and it’s clearly not working.
