Donald Trump is falling to pieces in real time
Donald Trump’s reelection poll numbers are historically bad. The economy is tanking. The stock market is signaling that it’s had enough of his antics. There’s a major hurricane preparing to make landfall in the United States. Walmart is outflanking Trump on gun control. Trump’s UK pal Boris Johnson is hanging by a thread. And in the middle of this, Trump is… actually we’re not even sure.
The hints just keep getting stronger that Donald Trump isn’t all there, isn’t even trying to do the job, isn’t fully aware of what’s going on around him, and simply isn’t all there. Yesterday he implied that Alabama bordered the Atlantic Ocean and thus might get hit hard by the current hurricane. After the media scrambled to make sure Trump’s errant words didn’t set off a panic, he responded by lashing out at one reporter – and spelling the guy’s name wrong. Is Trump so cut off from the real world, he wasn’t aware that every reporter was calling him out over this?
After Trump went golfing yesterday instead of working on hurricane response preparations – the worst possible optics for an unpopular president who’s trying to show that he cares about Americans heading into reelection – just about everyone called him out for it. But Trump responded by only attacking the Mayor of London for calling him out – and he spelled the Mayor’s name wrong. Again, it’s as if Trump is only getting isolated bits of news, and he has no idea that everyone is rolling their eyes at him.
There’s nothing going right for Donald Trump right now. What’s left of his presidency is falling apart by the hour. The question is whether there’s anything left of Donald Trump, period. He increasingly comes off as if he’s personally falling apart by the hour.
