Donald Trump goes utterly berserk at political rally after MAGA bomber arrested
Donald Trump seems to think this is all funny. That’s the only remaining conclusion left to be drawn after his behavior tonight at a political rally, just hours after one of his own rabid supporters was arrested for having attempted to murder fourteen prominent Democratic political figures. Instead of dialing down his toxic and violent rhetoric, Trump managed to dial it up tonight.
Trump just couldn’t help himself tonight. He began ranting about “Crooked Hillary” Clinton even though one of his supporters was just arrested for having tried to murder her with a pipe bomb. The crowd chanted “lock her up” – an explicit call for Clinton to be thrown in prison for political reasons despite having committed no crimes – and Trump embraced it. He even quipped to the crowd, “they’re going to be reporting about you tonight.”
At multiple points, Donald Trump’s rally attendees were chanting “CNN sucks.” Twice this week, one of Trump’s supporters – who has previously attended his rallies – tried to blow up the CNN Time Warner building. These people – the ones still eagerly supporting Trump’s ugliest rhetoric after they’ve seen what it leads to – are the worst that humanity has to offer. Trump, being fundamentally deranged in his own right, fires up these bottom feeders and then seems to feed off what they give him in return.
Donald Trump had a chance to change tack tonight, to quiet his critics, to salvage his own political viability, simply by pretending to be a human tonight. Instead he decided to be his berserk self even more blatantly than usual. Someone as messed up as Trump doesn’t suddenly become someone better just because the situation calls for it. He is who he is. And it’s well past time for him to resign.
