Rachel Maddow just nailed it
Donald Trump and his people are roughly as stupid as they are corrupt. That keeps being proven over and over again. It happened once again today, when the Trump regime declassified a Susan Rice email which was supposed to prove that President Obama was conspiring against Michael Flynn, but instead exonerated the entire Obama administration.
“I see this as a real own-goal.” That’s how Rachel Maddow described the Trump regime’s stunt during her show tonight. If you’re not familiar with the term, “own-goal” is when you accidentally put the soccer ball or hockey puck into your own net, thus scoring one for the other team.
Maddow is absolutely correct about this. When you’re promoting a phony scandal, you can only keep it going as long as you can keep up the illusion there’s secret evidence that will eventually prove you’re correct. This Susan Rice email was worth more to Donald Trump while it was still classified, because then Trump could keep lying about what was in it.
Instead, Donald Trump just punched a massive hole in his own deranged conspiracy theory. No one outside Trump’s deranged base was going to believe this “Obamagate” nonsense to begin with, but now Trump has essentially turned “Obamagate” into a Trump scandal.
