Rachel Maddow just nailed it

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

With so much happening right now, there are too many important stories to cover, and some of them are bound to fall through the cracks. Even within just the coronavirus crisis, there are an endless number of important storylines. One of the most important and heartbreaking ones is being largely ignored. Fortunately, Rachel Maddow just refuses to stop covering it.

Coronavirus is ripping through group living facilities across the nation. It’s particularly troubling because of the close quarters involved, and because many or most group living facilities are for the elderly, who are far more at risk from this virus than the general population. Throw in the need for medical care workers at these facilities, and the manner in which these workers are also getting sick, and it’s added up to a deadly nightmare.

Night after night, Rachel Maddow keeps doing lengthy segments on the coronavirus deaths in nursing homes. It’s an uncomfortable story that no one really wants to hear about, and she knows it. But she just refuses to stop covering it until something is done about it.

This is important, because sooner or later Maddow coverage will force something to be done about it. She’s reported that local authorities have asked FEMA for help with the nursing home outbreaks, for instance, and that FEMA has refused. Maddow’s ongoing coverage places pressure on entities like FEMA to finally pick up the phone and do something. Not every cable news host would be willing to stick with an unpalatable but crucial storyline for the sake of trying to save lives.
