Rachel Maddow just nailed it

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Thanks to the surreal and unprecedented nature of the past year, it can be tricky to try to keep track of time. Various storylines and developments have all run together. But it turns out it was precisely one year ago that Donald Trump stood up and suggested everyone try injecting or ingesting disinfectant and sunlight.

Rachel Maddow opened her MSNBC show tonight by focusing on the panicked PR response that Lysol had to release on that same day, effectively trying to convince Americans not to listen to what the President of the United States was telling them.

Maddow then went on to highlight the fact that people in Florida ended up being criminally indicted for selling bleach as a COVID “miracle cure” that ended up killing people instead. It’s not difficult to draw a fairly straight line from Trump’s words to these scammers.

Rachel Maddow then went on to cover the increasingly corrupt antics of the Arizona Republican legislature, which is still trying to find ways to pretend that Trump somehow secretly won the 2020 election – a crucial story. But it was cathartic to take a brief trip with her down “Disinfectant Road” before getting to the day’s big stories.
