Rachel Maddow is absolutely right about this
Rachel Maddow makes a good point that Tuesday’s election results were actually the best that any incoming President’s party has done in first-year elections in 30 years. The last five incoming Presidents lost Virginia and New Jersey in their first year. Under President Biden, the Democrats won New Jersey and almost won Virginia. It actually points to Biden and the Democrats having a better shot in the 2022 midterms than most first-term Presidents have.
That makes it all the more shameful that if we’d just put in the work on things like voter registration and phone banking, instead of whining endlessly about Merrick Garland and such, we’d have gotten 2% more of the vote in Virginia and won. Some of you tried to put in the work in Virginia, others didn’t. This is only directed at those who didn’t.
Interestingly, today’s headlines reveal that Merrick Garland has been putting the final screws to Rudy Giuliani, and prepping a voting rights case against Texas. So when some folks wasted this election cycle whining about him instead of phone banking, he was doing his job and they weren’t. Imagine that.
