Putin now reportedly in danger of being overthrown by his own FSB
We all knew that the loss of his puppet Donald Trump would be a severe blow for Vladimir Putin. What we didn’t know is that he would quickly unravel of his own accord, launching a suicidal invasion of Ukraine which has wrecked both his military and his economy, exposing him as the one thing dictators can’t get away with being: weak.
Sure enough, The Times of London is now reporting that according a whistleblower within the Russian intelligence community, the Russian FSB is in an internal uproar over Putin’s devastating failures, and there’s a very real risk of the FSB overthrowing him from within.
It’s not entirely clear why the whistleblower would leak this, rather than simply letting the FSB take Putin out. It’s also still not clear why the government of Ukraine leaked several days ago that it believed the powers that be within Russia were plotting to oust Putin and replace him with the head of the FSB. Coups generally rely on secrecy in order to work. So the people who are aware of a potential coup, and want it to succeed, would keep very quiet about it.
It’s enough to make us wonder if these are all merely head fakes, in an effort to convince Putin that the FSB is plotting against him, so that Putin will begin plotting against the FSB, which then really could result in the FSB deciding to take him out. The tricky part for Putin is that as he’s seeing these coup reports, he has no way of knowing whether they’re real or not, which has got to be making him even more paranoid than ever.
