Donald Trump is about to hold the most dangerous press conference possible
Donald Trump’s entire presidency has been one long reminder of the dangers of putting an incompetent stooge, deranged maniac, and career criminal in the Oval Office. Luckily, the United States hasn’t had to face a true external crisis during the three years in which Trump has been creating his own crises for us. But that’s now on the verge of changing, thanks to the coronavirus.
Trump’s ineptness and grifting have left the CDC underfunded, and his own administration clueless, when it comes to the nation’s response to the coronavirus threat. Instead of trying to get his act together, Trump posted this deranged tweet today: “Low Ratings Fake News MSDNC (Comcast) & @CNN are doing everything possible to make the Caronavirus look as bad as possible, including panicking markets, if possible. Likewise their incompetent Do Nothing Democrat comrades are all talk, no action. USA in great shape! I will be having a News Conference at the White House, on this subject, today at 6:00 P.M. CDC representatives, and others, will be there. Thank you!”
So this is great. Trump is in the kind of mood where he’s hurling idiotic insults at his political rivals instead of addressing the threat at hand, and now he wants to hold a press conference? This guy is going to try to reassure us about the coronavirus? Based on his tweet above, he doesn’t even know how to spell coronavirus.
Of course Donald Trump’s literacy issues are the least of our problems right now. He’s about to hold one of the most dangerous press conferences possible, in which he’ll make idiotic and false statements about a worldwide epidemic. If everyone realizes he has no idea what he’s talking about, it could set off a panic about the virus. Of course Trump is likely only doing this because the stock market is plummeting over coronavirus fears. But it’s telling that Trump’s handlers have steered him toward waiting until the market is closed before he speaks; they’re presumably afraid he’ll say something stupid and send the market plummeting even further.
