Donald Trump won’t survive this. Gordon Sondland is using his public testimony today to utterly destroy Trump’s presidency by spelling out that Trump instructed him to work with Rudy Giuliani on what ended up being a quid pro quo with Ukraine. Sondland couldn’t be much more clear about how thoroughly he’s throwing Trump under the bus. But that’s just the half of it.
Gordon Sondland is also destroying Mike Pence. He says he personally told Pence about the Ukraine quid pro quo while it was going on. This means Pence knew about it, which means Pence was in on it, which means he’s been lying about it. It’s now nearly impossible to see how Pence survives this. He’s just as screwed as Trump.
There’s a reason “President Pelosi” is trending on Twitter right now. The President and Vice President are now in grave danger of being taken down by the same criminal scandal. In fact, given Mike Pence’s criminal exposure, he’d be wise to pull a Spiro Agnew and cut a resignation plea deal now, while he can still get a lenient one.
So now what? That’s anyone’s guess. Mike Pence would be smart to resign now, but we’ll see what he does. Donald Trump would also be wise to try to cut a resignation plea deal, considering he’s already earmarked for arrest by New York State the minute he’s no longer in office. Will we see President Pelosi before the current term ends? Anything is now possible.
