President Biden just got the all clear for 2024

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When people involved in government and politics change their thinking, it inevitably attracts questions and criticism. However, a shift, whether it’s ideological, strategic, or simply emotional, is not inherently a bad thing. As reality and circumstances change, one should hope that leaders and their advisors reevaluate situations to make accurate, informed choices. A change of mind is not necessarily the product of indecisiveness nor is it some indicator that the person’s new position isn’t strong or sincere.

First Lady Jill Biden has made a “tidal shift,” as CNN describes it, in her position about her husband running for reelection. Sources have told CNN that Jill Biden’s private talks now align with both President Joe Biden’s thinking as well as her “publicly enthusiastic persona.” As one East Wing employee put it, she’s “all in.”

Given this development, it’s easy to invent a conspiracy theory about how this is the story of a First Lady having felt pressured or even coerced to change her mind. It’s also tempting, for haters and defeatists alike, to doubt Jill Biden’s commitment, given that she wasn’t squarely behind the idea of a second Biden term just a few months ago.

The truth, however, is that there’s nothing to see here. It’s not unusual for a First Lady to get behind such a weighty commitment after first considering it for a while. Also, the Democrats’ spectacular performance in the midterms, having defied expectations for a first-term President’s political party, played a pivotal role. Indeed, Jill Biden’s friends “noted a change” in the month following the election.

President Biden just shared a touching story about the First Couple’s courtship in an interview that will be aired on The Drew Barrymore Show this Monday. According to Biden, it was love at first sight for him when he first met Jill Jacobs. However, Jill didn’t agree to marry Biden until his fifth proposal—and they’ve stayed married since 1977. Now that Jill Biden has thrown her support around her husband’s reelection campaign, it’s time for all Americans to pay attention. When the Bidens stand firmly together on the same page, they are truly a force to be reckoned with.
