President Biden is in great physical shape, unlike the former guy
President Joe Biden, frequently seen jogging to and from the stage, is visibly in good physical shape and health. Today he tripped on a flight of stairs. Right wingers are trying to use this to validate all of their whacked out conspiracy theories, as they always try to do. But as usual they’re barking up the wrong tree.
We know Biden had an earlier ankle issue. Maybe he’s been pushing the ankle too hard and that’s why he tripped today, or maybe it was just random. But either way, this was isolated. All you have to do is look at Biden in action – without your brain warped by right wing propaganda – and you can see that he’s in fantastic shape for his age.
Contrast this with Donald Trump. He famously struggled to walk up and down ramps. He couldn’t stand at a podium for more than a brief amount of time without leaning on it. He frequently used two hands to lift a drinking glass or water bottle. He visibly appeared to be struggling whenever he walked, particularly in his final year in office.
If Trump was physically disabled, then so be it; he wouldn’t have been the first U.S. President with a physical disability. But if so, he had an obligation to disclose what it was, as the American people had a right to know whether it was solely a physical issue, or whether it was the kind of condition that was affecting him physically and cognitively.
Trump’s refusal to disclose this was scandalous, and his supporters always reacted defensively to it. So it’s not a surprise that they’re now trying to project Trump’s obvious health issues onto Joe Biden, who can literally run circles around Trump. But the right wing’s narratives never are in line with facts or reality, and fortunately the average American doesn’t pay attention to the conspiracy theories coming from right wing media.
As always, this will come down to whether the mainstream media outlets decide to amplify those conspiracy theories about Biden’s health in an attempt to gin up ratings, or whether the mainstream media behaves responsibility by treating Biden’s trip as the isolated matter that it obviously is.
