President Biden instructs hospitals to perform life-saving abortions, threatens consequences if they refuse to
President Joe Biden and his administration are continuing to take specific action to push back against the Supreme Court’s recent ruling which overturned Roe v. Wade in blatantly unconstitutional and legally incoherent fashion.
Biden is now instructing hospitals around the nation to go ahead and perform live-saving abortions, regardless of whatever state law might say. Biden is even going so far as to threaten financial penalties against any hospitals who refuse to provide life-saving abortions.
Why does this matter? We all know that this insane Supreme Court ruling hasn’t merely stripped away women’s most basic personal rights. It’s also created an immediate national health crisis that has put women’s health and lives at risk. This move by Biden will prompt more hospitals to do the right thing and save more women’s lives.
We expect Biden will continue rolling out more such moves as the days go on. The key is to keep finding legal methods for making it happen, in ways that the Supreme Court can’t just turn around and immediately overrule. Biden is essentially declaring that various states have placed unconstitutional limits on life-saving abortions, and he’s daring red states to come at him over it.
